Climate Smart Agriculture
SIC launched the Sisal Processing Innovation Project in Mango, Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, transforming how local women utilized abundant sisal resources.
Previously, women could only extract minimal fiber manually with very limited income potential. SIC introduced solar-powered processing machines and established community-based centers, training women in fiber extraction, rope making, mat weaving, and marketing.
Through strategic market partnerships and women’s cooperatives, the project has created sustainable income opportunities while promoting environmental conservation.
Poultry Farming
Our poultry initiative at the Sustainable Innovation Center priority is to create economic independence within the community through: a broiler enterprise which produces 600 birds every month with a five-week growing cycle, and improved traditional chicken farming rearing for eggs and meat. Additionally, we provide hands-on training in critical areas such as animal disease control and sanitation lessons, sales and distribution, feed manufacturing, and storage preservation. The program has positively impacted many households, helping them achieve economic resilience and self-sufficiency.
Permaculture
Our permaculture program has become a place where students discover their strengths through the soil. Each day they plant, water, and eventually harvest while aslo learning organic farming not just from lessons, but from the land itself. The food they grow feeds the school, and what they sell helps support other programs, turning their hard work into real change.
For some students who struggle in class, the garden has become a doorway to confidence. As their crops grow, so does their belief in themselves. Many now take these skills home, helping their families start small gardens and even raising fruit seedlings to regreen their communities.
Feeding Program
Our program provides daily nutritious porridge to children in school. This simple yet powerful initiative addresses classroom hunger while supporting education outcomes. The daily meal serves as an incentive for school attendance, improves concentration during lessons, and provides essential nutrition for growing children. By sourcing ingredients locally where possible, we also support community farmers and economies. This sustainable approach to addressing hunger in schools represents our commitment to grassroots-driven solutions that empower communities while meeting immediate needs.
Menstrual Health Hygiene
Our Menstrual Health Program provides education, resources, and support to ensure girls can manage their periods with dignity and without interruption to their education. We distribute reusable sanitary pads and hygiene kits while conducting workshops that break cultural taboos and promote body literacy. By creating safe spaces for open dialogue, we empower girls with knowledge about their changing bodies and reduce period-related absenteeism. Our program also engages boys and men to foster supportive communities where menstrual health is normalized rather than stigmatized. Through these comprehensive efforts, we’re helping girls stay in school, build confidence, and participate fully in their education throughout their menstrual cycles.
Our Scholarship Program supports bright, deserving students from underprivileged backgrounds by covering school fees, supplies, and related educational expenses. We focus on learners who demonstrate academic potential, leadership qualities, and financial need particularly girls, orphans, and children from marginalized households.
Beyond financial support, the program includes mentorship, career guidance, and life skills training to help scholars thrive academically and personally. By reducing financial barriers, we enable students to complete their education, pursue higher learning or vocational training, and become change-makers in their communities.
This initiative reflects our commitment to equitable education and long-term community development through youth empowerment.
